Created by Fabian Nicieza and Rob Liefeld, the character of Deadpool made his first appearance in New Mutants #98 in December 1990. He was seen as a villain initially, in such comic books as New Mutants and X-Force, but in later stories, the alter-ego of Wade Wilson was portrayed as an antihero.
Outside of the printed page, Deadpool has appeared in various animated television series, including Marvel Anime: X-Men and Ultimate Spider-Man. He has also been seen on the big screen in 3 major movie releases. The first of these – X-Men Origins: Wolverine – angered fans of the mouthy merc because he was rendered mute throughout the movie. He then went on to headline two movies of his own, the second of which was released twice in both R-rated and PG-13 versions. A third Deadpool movie is expected next year, where he will be integrated into the MCU.
