1867 (26th May)
Mary of Teck was born Victoria Mary to Francis of Teck and his wife, Mary of Cambridge at Kensington Palace, London. She was known to her family as May.
1867 (27th July)
Mary was christened Victoria Mary Augusta Louise Olga Pauline Claudine Agnes at the Private Chapel in Kensington Palace by the Archbishop of Canterbury Charles Longley. Her godparents were Queen Victoria, Edward Prince of Wales and Princess Augusta of Hesse Kassel, Duchess of Cambridge.
1868 (13th August)
Mary’s brother Adolphus, was born to Francis of Teck and his wife, Mary of Cambridge.
1870 (9th January)
Mary’s brother Francis, was born to Francis of Teck and his wife, Mary of Cambridge.
1874 (14th April)
Mary’s brother Alexander, was born to Francis of Teck and his wife, Mary of Cambridge.
1883 (during)
Mary and her family left London to live in Europe. The family was in debt and hoped to save some money by lodging with European relatives.

Mary and her family returned to London.
1891 (6th December)
Mary became engaged to Prince Albert Victor, heir to the British throne.
1892 (14th January)
Mary’s fiance, Albert, died of pneumonia. He was buried in St George’s Chapel, Windsor.

Prince George, Albert’s brother, proposed marriage to Mary and she accepted.

Queen Victoria died. Mary’s father-in-law became King Edward VII. Her husband George became heir to the throne and was created Duke of Cornwall and Rothesay.

Prince George and Mary of Teck left Britain to begin an eight-month tour of the British Empire.

George and Mary returned to Britain.

A son, John Charles Francis was born to Mary and George at York Cottage, Sandringham, Norfolk.

Mary and George embarked on a six-month tour of India.

Mary and George returned from their tour of India.

George and Mary attended the wedding of King Alfonso XIII of Spain to Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, George’s cousin.

George and Mary attended the coronation of King Haakon of Norway.
1910 (6th May)
George’s father, Edward VII, died and George became King George V of Great Britain and Emperor of India. Mary’s eldest son, Albert, became Duke of Cornwall and Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Lord of the Isles and Baron Renfrew.
1910 (23rd June)
Mary’s eldest son, Albert, was made a Knight of the Garter and created Prince of Wales.
1910 (22nd October)
Mary’s brother, Francis, died.
1911 (22nd June)
George was crowned King George V and Mary was crowned Queen Consort at Westminster Abbey.
1911 (July)
Mary accompanied George on a visit to Ireland.
1911 (11th December)
George was crowned Emperor of India and Mary was crowned Empress of India at New Delhi, India.
1914 (4th August)
World War One
Britain declared war on Germany after Germany did not withdraw their troops from Belgium.
1915 (during)
Mary’s husband, King George, fell from his horse while visiting British troops in Flanders and suffered a fractured pelvis.
1916 (during)
Mary’s son, Albert was created a Knight of the Garter.
1917 (17th July)
Mary’s husband, King George, changed the royal family name from Saxe-Coburg-Gotha to Windsor due to strong anti-German feeling during World War One.

Due to concerns that it would start a revolution against the monarchy, George turned down a request by his cousin, Tsar Nicholas II for sanctuary for the Russian royal family in Britain.
1919 (18th January)
Mary’s son, John, who suffered from epilepsy, died at Wood Farm, Wolferton, Norfolk.
1920 (4th June)
Mary’s son, Albert, was created Duke of York, Earl of Inverness and Baron Killarney.
1922 (May)
King George made a tour of Belgium and northern France and visited war cemeteries where British servicemen were buried.
1925 (during)
George V, a heavy smoker, was diagnosed with chronic obstructive airways disease. He took a private cruise of the Mediterranean to recuperate.
1927 (24th October)
Mary’s brother, Adolphus, died following an operation on his intestines.
1928 (31st March)
Mary’s son, Henry, was created Duke of Gloucester.
1928 (14th January)
King George V was taken ill with septicaemia. Edward, Prince of Wales, took over many royal duties.
1932 (December)
George V made the first Royal Christmas broadcast.
1934 (12th October)
Mary’s son, George, was created Duke of Kent.
1934 (29th November)
Mary’s son, George married Princess Marina of Greece and Denmark at Westminster Abbey.
1935 (6th May)
George and Mary celebrated their silver jubilee. They had become popular with the people.

Mary and George V were concerned about their eldest son, Edward’s behaviour and George remarked “After I am dead, the boy will ruin himself within 12 months.” He also commented “I pray to God my eldest son will never marry and have children and that nothing will come between Bertie and Lilibet and the throne.”
1935 (6th November)
Mary’s son, Henry, married Alice Christabel at the private chapel in Buckingham Palace.
1936 (20th January)
King George died of pleurisy. He was succeeded by his eldest son as King Edward VIII. Mary took the title Her Majesty Queen Mary.
1936 (28th January)
King George V was buried in St George’s chapel, Windsor Castle.
1936 (11th December)
Edward VIII abdicated the throne to marry Wallis Simpson. Mary’s second son, Albert, took the throne as King George VI. Mary did not approve of her eldest son’s decision to abdicate the throne.
1937 (12th May)
Mary attended the coronation of her son, King George VI.
1940 (during)
Mary moved out of London for the duration of the Second World War and lived at Badminton House, Gloucestershire with her niece Mary Somerset.
1942 (25th August)
Mary’s son, George Duke of Kent, died in a military air crash.
1945 (June)
Mary returned to Marlborough House, London.
1952 (6th February)
Mary’s son, King George VI died. He was succeeded by his daughter, Elizabeth.
1953 (24th March)
Mary died at Marlborough House, London.
1953 (31st March)
After lying in state for a week, Mary’s body was buried in St George’s Chapel, Windsor.
