Aemond Targaryen Timeline – House of the Dragon

Aemond Targaryen was born to King Viserys and Alicent Hightower at Kings Landing. He was the couple’s third child, his brother Aegon was now 4 years old and his sister Helaena 2 years old.

Aemond was at the dragonpit where his cousin Jacaerys was learning to tame his dragon. Afterwards all the children taunted Aemond, who does not have a dragon, by presenting him with a pig.

Aegon, Aemond, Lucerys (Luke) and Jaecaerys (Jace) were being trained in weapons use by Ser Criston Cole. Cole showed obvious favour to Alicent’s children. He was angry because Rhaenyra had dismissed any idea of marrying him wanting him as her lover.

Aemond, his siblings and parents went to Driftmark for the funeral of Laena.

Aegon and Aemond watched their sister Helaena looking at a spider. Aegon spoke of his dislike of his sibling but Aemond defended her saying that if he were betrothed to her he would keep their Targaryen line clean.

After being sent to bed, Aemond escaped the castle and walked along the beach. He found Laena’s dragon, Vhaegar on the beach and approached.  After stroking the dragon he climbed on its back. Vhaegar flew over the ocean swooping low and high trying to dislodge his rider. Aemond managed to stay on the daragon and Vhaegar allowed itself to be claimed by Aemond.

Aemond returned to the castle and was confronted by Laena’s daughters Baela and Rhaena. Jace and Luke Velaryon had supported the girls and fought Aemond. In the melee, Aemond broke Luke’s nose and Luke slashed Aemond across the face causing him to lose an eye.

King Viserys called for calm and demanded to know why the fight had taken place. He was angry when he heard that Aemond had called Jace and Luke bastards and demanded to know who had given him this information. Aegon told his grandfather that it was common knowledge. Alicent demanded retribution and instructed Criston Cole to take Luke’s eye. Viserys refused such action. Alicent then grabbed a dagger and slashed Rhaenyra’s arm before storming off. Aemond told everyone that losing an eye was a fair exchange for gaining a dragon.

After hearing that Corlys Velaryon had been badly injured in battle at Stepstones, those with a claim to Driftmark arrived in Kings Landing to petition the King.

Aemond was in the courtyard training with Criston Cole. Aemond was very skilful with the sword and managed to beat his trainer.

Aemond was present in the hall to hear the petitions for Driftmark. Corlys’ brother Vaemond spoke first stating his claim on the grounds that Luke Velaryon was not of Velaryon blood. As Rhaenyra began her petition on behalf of her son, Viserys arrived. This shocked those present, especially Otto and Alicent. The King was very weak and feeble and barely able to walk unaided. However, once on the throne he said that Rhaenys was the only person present who had insight into Corlys’ wishes.

Rhaenys stepped forward to speak and told the assembly that Corlys had always wished for Luke to succeed him. She said she agreed and accepted Rhaenyra’s proposal for Luke and Jace to marry Baela and Rhaena. Vaemond was furious. He questioned Luke’s parentage and called Rhaenyra a whore. Viserys ordered his tongue be removed. Daemon stepped forward and decapitated Vaemond.

Aemond attended a celebratory meal requested by Viserys. Viserys told those present that they were the people he loved the most and asked them to be nice to each other. Rhaenyra made a toast to Alicent and Alicent reciprocated. Aemond rose to make a toast. He then raised his cup to Luke, Jace and Joffrey Velaryon stating  ‘I have never known anyone so strong as my sweet nephews, so let us drain our cups to these three strong boys’. The tension between the two families was rising and after the King was carried out unwell, a fight erupted.

The following morning, Aemond learns of his grandfather’s death and also that his brother Aegon is missing. He decided to go with Criston Cole to find Aegon saying that he had some knowledge of Aegon’s favourite places.

As he walked through the streets with Criston Cole, Aemond spoke of how wrong it was that Aegon should be King when he had no interest in the position. He said that he had learnt the histories and was a good fighter and a much better candidate to be king.

After visiting a number of places, Aemond and Cole came across Ser Erryk who had found Aegon. Cole fought Erryk, Aegon broke free and tried to run but was caught by Aemond. Aegon was taken back to his mother and told that he was king.

Aegon was crowned King Aegon II. Although he did not want to be King he was happy when the people cheered for him. However, the celebration was interrupted by Rhaenys, riding her dragon, crashing through the building and landing in front of the Royal party. However, instead of burning them all, her dragon merely hisses at them before flying off.

Aemond Targaryen flew to Storm’s end to secure the support of Borros Baratheon for the Greens. He was still in the hall when Lucerys Velaryon arrived to ask Borros to support Rhaenyra. After Borros Baratheon refused Rhaenyra’s offer, Luke made to leave but Aemond demanded revenge for his lost eye and told Luke to remove his own eye. Luke refused. Borros Baratheon told both boys he would not have fighting in his hall.

After Lucerys flew off into the storm, Aemond got on his dragon Vhamar and followed him. Both boys were having trouble controlling their dragons in the stormy weather. Luke’s dragon Arrax suddenly attacked Vhamar with a burst of fire. Vhamar then surprised Arrax and attacked by taking a bite out of him. Arrax fell from the sky and Aemond watched as Luke’s cloak drifted to the ground. If Lucerys had survived the attack the fall definitely killed him.
