The Epiphany Rising
A plot to seize King Henry IV and restore Richard II to the throne was foiled when one of the conspirators betrayed the others.

It was announced that Richard II had died in Pontefract Castle. He either starved himself to death, was starved to death or was murdered.
1400 (25th July)
King Henry marched north at the head of an army which would muster at York prior to invading Scotland.
1400 (August)
The English army marched from York to Scotland in an attempt to put Edinburgh castle to siege. The mission failed.
1400 (16th September)
Henry IV faced rebellion in Wales when Owain Glyn Dwr was declared Prince of Wales.

De Heretico Comburendo Act
This act proclaimed that anyone owning a copy of the Bible in English was considered a heretic. It also stated that the punishment for heresy should be burning at the stake.

An English force led by Henry Hotspur, son of the Earl of Northumberland, defeated a Scottish raiding party and captured the Earl of Douglas.

KIng Henry IV married Joan of Navarre at Winchester Cathedral.

Henry’s second stepmother, Katherine Swynford, died.

Henry Percy announced that he would join forces with Owain GlynDwr and the Mortimer family against Henry IV’s rule.

Before Henry Percy had a chance to join the Mortimer faction, King Henry marched north and defeated him. Percy was captured and executed but Percy’s father was allowed to live.

Owain Glyndwr declared himself Prince of Wales and allied himself with the French.

The English defeated a force of Welsh rebels.

Richard Scrope, Archbishop of York, supported by the Earl of Northumberland, led a rebellion against the rule of Henry IV. Scrope was defeated and executed. Nothumberland fled to Scotland.
1406 (22nd March)
Henry captured James of Scotland, heir to the Scottish throne, and held him captive.
1406 (13th October)
Richard Whittington was elected Lord Mayor of London for the second time.
1407 (October)
Henry, Prince of Wales, lay siege to a number of Welsh rebels at Aberystwyth.
1408 (19th February)
Battle of Bramham Moor
The Earl of Northumberland, with Scottish support, invaded England. Henry met them and scored a decisive victory. Northumberland was killed in the battle.

Prince Henry, heir to the throne, became Chancellor. Henry IV was becoming increasingly unwell.
