Khal Drogo was born the son of the Dothraki Khal Bharbo.
Before Season 1 Childhood
Young Drogo showed great skill as a fighter.
Before Season 1 Age 25 (approx.)
Khal Bharbo died. Although the position of Khal was not hereditary, Drogo was the strongest warrior and had never been beaten in battle so was chosen to be Khal. He was guarded by his bloodriders, Qotho, Pono and Jhaqo.

Drogo remained unbeaten and was now leader of the largest Drothraki khalasar (around 40,000).

Khal Drogo wanted to marry the most beautiful woman in the World. He asked Magister Illyrio Mopatis of Pentos to help in his search.

Viserys and Daenerys Targaryen were living in Illyrio Mopatis’ home, having fled from Westeros as children. Illyrio and Viserys suggested Daenerys Targaryen as a suitable khaleesi for Drogo. In return for his sister, Viserys wanted Drogo to supply him with an army of Dothraki to help him take the iron throne.

Drogo rode to Pentos to see sixteen year-old Daenerys Targaryen for himself. He was pleased with what he saw and agreed to the match.

Khal Drogo married Daenerys Targaryen in a typical Dothraki ceremony. He gave his new khaleesi a white horse as a wedding present. Drogo consummated the marriage, taking his reluctant bride by force.

The Dothraki travelled the plains to return to Vaes Dothrak. Drogo was pleased that Daenerys was learning to speak the Dothraki language and that she was able to give him pleasure in bed.

Drogo is delighted when Daenerys announces that she is pregnant. He is very proud when she manages to eat the heart of a stallion and earn the respect of his khalasar.

Khal Drogo and Daenerys were presiding over a great feast in Vaes Dothrak. Viserys arrived drunk and threatened Khal Drogo with his sword demanding the promised army so he could take his crown. Drogo executed Viserys by pouring molten gold over his head.

Daenerys asked Khal Drogo to help her to take the Iron Throne herself but he told her that the Dothraki would not want to cross the sea.

Khal Drogo was alarmed by the assassination attempt on Daenerys. He changed his mind and said he would help Daenerys to take the Iron Throne. Drogo led the Dothraki to Lhazar, the land of the lamb men, in order to take goods and slaves to sell to raise money for the invasion.

Daenerys was very annoyed when she saw the Dothraki men raping the Lhazareen women. She demanded they be given better conditions. The Dothraki Mago was annoyed by her interference and challenged Khal Drogo to a fight. Drogo killed Mago but during the fight he was injured.

Despite warnings from his bloodriders, Drogo allows Daenerys to bring the captured lamb woman Mirri Maz Duur to look at his wound and treat it.

The wound on Drogo’s chest continued to fester. His condition worsened and he fell off his horse. According to Dothraki culture if a Khal cannot ride, he cannot lead the khalasar.

It became clear that Khal Drogo was dying. Daenerys begged Mirri Maz Duur to use blood magic to save his life.

Drogo’s bloodrider, Qotho, tried to prevent the blood magic but was killed by Jorah Mormont. While Mirri Maz Duur was using blood magic to save Drogo’s life, Daenerys gave birth to a deformed stillborn child. Mirri Maz Duur told her that her son’s death was necessary to save her husband.
Season 1 Age 30
Khal Drogo had survived but was in a vegetative state. Daenerys knew this was not a life he would want and suffocated him with a pillow.
