1948 (14th November)
King Charles III was born Charles Philip Arthur George to Princess Elizabeth, daughter of King George VI and Philip Duke of Edinburgh at Buckingham Palace.
1948 (15th December)
Charles was christened in the Music Room of Buckingham Palace by Archbishop of Canterbury, Geoffrey Fisher.
1949 (July)
Charles and his parents moved to Clarence House, London.
1950 (15th August)
Charles’s sister, Anne Elizabeth Alice Louise was born to Elizabeth and Prince Philip at Clarence House, London.
1951 (during)
Princess Elizabeth frequently stood in for her father at public events due to his declining health.
1952 (31st January)
Charles and his sister remained in England when his parents Elizabeth and Philip left Britain to begin a tour of East Africa, Australia and New Zealand.

King George VI died from lung cancer. He was succeeded by Princess Elizabeth who became Queen Elizabeth II. Prince Charles became Duke of Cornwall and Rothesay, Earl of Carrick, Lord of the Isles and Baron Renfrew upon his mother’s accession to the throne.

A BAe 146 aircraft being flown by Prince Charles crashed in the Hebrides. Shortly afterwards Charles announced that he had given up flying.

The marriage of Prince Charles and Lady Diana was formally dissolved.
1997 (31st August)
Lady Diana Spencer was killed in a car crash in Paris. Charles flew to Paris with Diana’s sisters to accompany the body back to England.

The Queen was fiercely criticised for remaining in Scotland rather than returning to London and also for not flying the flag on Buckingham Palace at half mast following the death of Lady Diana.

Celebrations were held throughout the Commonwealth to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s Diamond Jubilee. Despite poor weather thousands turned out to witness the Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant where 1,000 boats and barges sailed up the River in procession. A live concert was also held outside Buckingham Palace and Charles made a speech to his mother.

Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan announced that they would be stepping back from being senior royals. They expressed a wish to divide their time between the UK and north America and will work to become financially independent. It was officially announced that Prince Harry and Meghan would step back from Royal duties and would not receive public funding. They would no longer use their HRH titles nor would they represent the Queen. Harry and Meghan also stated that they would repay the £2.4 million public money used to refurbish Frogmore Cottage.

It was announced that the Spring tour due to be made by Prince Charles and Camilla was cancelled due to the outbreak of coronavirus.
