King Viserys I Timeline
Before Season 1 Age 0
Viserys was born the son of Prince Baelon the Brave and Alyssa Targaryen. His parents were brother and sister, the children of King Jaehaerys I. Baelon was heir to the throne.
Before Season 1 Age 14
Viserys’ younger brother, Daemon, was born.
Before Season 1 Age 18
Viserys’ dragon, Balerion, died of old age.
Before Season 1 Age 25
Viserys married Aemma Arryn.

A daughter Rhaenyra was born to Viserys and Aemma.
Before Season 1 Age 33
Baelon the Brave died. This caused a succession problem because he was heir to the throne. A meeting of the Great Council was held at Harrenhal to decide who should succeed. Both Viserys and his aunt Rhaenys Targaryen had a claim to the throne. The Council decided that Viserys should succeed as King.
Season 1 Prologue Age 35
King Jaehaerys I died. Viserys Targaryen became King Viserys I. He gave his brother, Daemon the post of Master of Laws.
Before Season 1 Age 44
On the advice of Hand of the King Otto Hightower, Viserys had removed his brother Daemon firstly from his post of Master of Laws and later from that of Master of Coin. He had made him Commander of the Kingsguard.

Viserys attended a meeting of the Small Council. Those present were Hand of the King Otto Hightower, Corlys Valaryon husband of Rhaenys Targaryen, Lyman Beesbury, Grand Maester Mellos. Viserys dismissed the concerns of Corlys Valaryon regarding pirates and defended his brother Daemon who had spent much money equipping the Kingsguard.

After the meeting, Viserys visited Grand Maester Mellow for treatment to a wound on his back which had been caused by the blades of the iron throne.

King Viserys I sat in the royal box to watch those competing in a tournament to mark the impending birth of the expected heir.

Viserys was called to the birthing room where he was told that the baby was in the breach position and could not be turned. He was told that the child could be saved if they cut Aemma open but she would die if they did so. Viserys chose to save the child. He sat with his wife as she bled to death. The child died soon after its birth.

The funeral of Queen Aemma and Prince Baelon was held. Rhaenyra gave her dragon Syrax the command ‘Dracarys’ to light the funeral pyre.

The small council once again begged Viserys to name his heir stating that Prince Daemon would not be suitable to be King. Viserys angrily defended his brother saying his brother had no ambition to be King.

Otto Hightower told King Viserys that his brother, Prince Daemon, had been seen drinking in the brothels and toasting the ‘heir for a day’.

Viserys received a visit from Alicent Hightower who brought him a history book. She began visiting him regularly.

Viserys summoned Daemon and questioned him regarding his naming Prince Baelon ‘heir for a day’. When Daemon did not deny the accusation, Viserys banished him from court and sent him home to his wife.

A few months after the death of Queen Aemma, at a meeting of the Small Council, an angry Corlys Velaryon announced that the Triarchy, financed by the Free Cities, had sunk four Westerosi ships. He pleaded with the King to allow him to take the Royal fleet to defeat Craghas Drahar. Corlys approved of the idea suggested by Rhaenyra that the dragonriders be used to quickly defeat the pirate. However, Viserys refused to sanction any action that might provoke war with the Free Cities.

Viserys continued to meet Alicent Hightower and asked her to keep their meetings from his daughter.

King Viserys, Corlys and Rhaenys met in the gardens. Corlys emphasised that Viserys should guard against being seen as weak. He suggested an alliance between Velaryon and Targaryen with a marriage between King Viserys and his 12 year old daughter Leana.

Viserys walked in the gardens with Leana Velaryon. He was concerned by the age difference and much preferred the company of Alicent Hightower.

King Viserys was dining with Alicent when they were interrupted by Otto Hightower with the news that Prince Daemon had stolen the dragon egg set aside for Prince Baelon. Viserys was furious and agreed that Otto could go to Dragonstone to retrieve it.

When he learned that Rhaenyra had gone to Dragonstone herself and retrieved the egg, King Viserys was angry that she put herself in danger but agreed that only she could have succeeded without bloodshed.

At the next meeting of the Small Council, King Viserys announced his intention to marry Alicent Hightower. Both Corlys Velaryon and Rhaenyra Targaryen stormed out of the Small Chamber.

King Viserys has organised a hunt to mark the second birthday of his son Prince Aegon.

Although a White Hart has been sighted, it proves elusive and Viserys has to be content with killing a stag that is tethered by ropes.

Back at court, Viserys is aware that Daemon and Corys Velaryon had defeated Craghas Drahar and the Triarchy. Daemon presented himself to Viserys. Viserys questioned the crown that Daemon was wearing and was told that he had been named King of the Narrow Sea. After Daemon pledged his allegiance to the King the two embraced.

In the evening Viserys took a bath. Alicent bathed him and commented on the wound on his arm. Later that night he summoned Alicent and made love to her. She lay still and emotionless underneath him. It was revealed that he had a number of wounds that were not healing.

Otto Hightower told Viserys that Rhaenyra had been seen with Daemon in the brothels. He ordered Daemon found and brought to him. Daemon asked to marry Rhaenyra but Viserys had already determined that Rhaenyra would marry Laenor Velaryon. He told Daemon to return to his wife.
Season 1 Age 47
Rhaenyra told Viserys that she would marry Laenor Velaryon if he would get rid of Otto Hightower as he was a self-serving schemer. Viserys summoned Otto Hightower and took back his Hand of the King badge.

Viserys travelled to Driftmark to meet Corlys Velaryon and propose a marriage between Rhaenyra and Laenor Velaryon. He appeared to be unwell but managed to agree marriage terms with Corlys Velaryon.

After returning to Kings Landing, Viserys’ condition worsened and he was treated by the Maester.

Viserys presided over the preliminary wedding feast. He was angry when his wife, Alicent arrived midway through his speech.

Viserys sat on the high table watching the guests dancing. He was alarmed when he saw Rhaenyra and Daemon talking. When a fight broke out he initially feared his brother was the cause. When it was revealed that Ser Criston Cole had killed Ser Joffrey Lonmouth the feast ended.

Viserys was feeling worse and ordered that Rhaenyra and Laenor were married immediately. As the ceremony ended, Viserys collapsed.

Viserys was with Alicent when Rhaenyra brought her new baby, Joffrey to Alicent. After Rhaenyra left Alicent complained to Viserys that all Rhaenyra’s children had dark hair. Viserys was angry and told her to be silent.

At a meeting of the Small Council, Rhaenyra suggested that the animosity between her and Alicent be put aside with the marriage of Prince Jacaerys to Princes Helaena. Viserys thought it a good idea but Alicent was against the union.

Lord Lyonel Strong arrived to inform Viserys that he would resign his position due to the behaviour of his son, Harwin. Viserys refused to accept the resignation but granted Lyonel permission to take his son to Harrenhal.

While he was at Harrenhal a fire broke out at Harrenhal. Lyonel and Harwin were unable to leave their rooms and both perished in the blaze.

Alicent, Viserys and their children went to Driftmark for the funeral of Laena.

Viserys along with the other adults on Driftmark, rushed to the hall where there was a huge commotion taking place. Prince Aemond had claimed Rhaena’s dragon Vhaegar which had angered her daughters Baela and Rhaena. Jacaerys (Jace) and Lucerys (Luke) Velaryon had supported their cousins and fought Aemond. In the melee, Aemond broke Luke’s nose and Luke slashed Aemond across the face causing him to lose an eye.

King Viserys called for calm and demanded to know why the fight had taken place. He was angry when he heard that Aemond had called Jace and Luke bastards. Aegon told his father that it was common knowledge that their father was not Laenor. Viserys ordered the two families to make peace. Alicent argued that this was not good enough and that Luke should lose an eye in revenge. Viserys refused. Alicent grabbed his dagger but was restrained by Rhaenyra. She then slashed Rhaenyra’s arm before storming off. Aemond told everyone that losing an eye was a fair exchange for gaining a dragon.
Season 1 Age 57
On the ship returning to Kings Landing Viserys was very tired. He accepted Alicent’s apology with a wave of the hand.
Season 1 Age 63
Over the last six years, Viserys’ health had deteriorated considerably. His body is covered in sores and his face heavily bandaged. He now takes no part in government his place being taken by Alicent and Otto Hightower.
Viserys was visited by Rhaenyra and Daemon Targaryen. They showed the King his grandchildren Aegon and Viserys. Rhaenyra spoke to Viserys and asked him if he remembered the song of Ice and Fire. She told him she needed his help to maintain her position.
A meeting was convened in the hall to hear petitions of those staking a claim to Driftmark should Corlys die from injuries sustained in a battle at Stepstones.

Those assembled were shocked when the doors opened and King Viserys entered. He was very weak and feeble and barely unable to walk unaided. However, once on the throne he said that Rhaenys was the only person present who had insight into Corlys’ wishes.

Rhaenys stepped forward to speak and told the assembly that Corlys had always wished for Lucerys (Luke) to succeed him. She said she agreed and accepted Rhaenyra’s proposal for Luke and Jace to marry Baela and Rhaena. Corlys’ brother Vaemond, who had presented his petition before the King’s arrival, was furious. He questioned Luke’s parentage and called Rhaenyra a whore. Viserys ordered his tongue be removed. Daemon stepped forward and decapitated Vaemond.

Viserys expressed his wish that his whole family be assembled for a meal. Viserys told those present that they were the people he loved the most and asked them to be nice to each other. Rhaenyra toasted Alicent and she reciprocated. Although tension remained, the others made toasts in a show of harmony. Viserys called for music, looked at the happy faces around him and had a relapse. He was carried back to bed.

Alicent visited Viserys who was in a lot of pain and discomfort. She gave him milk of the poppy. Viserys then spoke to her, clearly believing her to be Rhaenyra. He said that he did remember the song of Ice and Fire of Aegon and believed that she was the Prince that was Promised.

After Alicent left the room, King Viserys I died.
