Rhaenyra Targaryen Timeline
Before Season 1 Age 0
Rhaenyra Targaryen was born to Prince Viserys and his wife, Aemma. She was the great granddaughter of King Jaehaerys.
Before Season 1 Age 4
Rhaenyra’s grandfather, Baelon the Brave, died. This caused a succession problem because he was heir to the throne. A meeting of the Great Council was held at Harrenhal to decide who should succeed. Both Prince Viserys and his aunt Rhaenys Targaryen had a claim to the throne. The Council decided that Viserys should succeed as King.
Season 1 Prologue Age 6
King Jaehaerys I died. Rhaenyra’s father became King Viserys I.
Season 1 Age 15
After riding her dragon Syrax around the city, Rhaenyra returned to Kings Landing. She was met by her sworn shield, Ser Harrold Westerling and her friend Alicent Hightower.

Rhaenyra and Alicent paid a visit to Queen Aemma who was heavily pregnant. Aemma told Rhaenyra that having children was a woman’s duty and childbirth was their battleground.

Rhaenyra Targaryen attended the meeting of the Small Council where she served as cupbearer. Those present were the King, the Hand of the King Otto Hightower, Corlys Valaryon husband of Rhaenys Targaryen, Lyman Beesbury, Grand Maester Mellos. During the meeting, Viserys dismissed the concerns of Corys Valaryon regarding pirates and defended his brother Daemon who had spent much money equipping the Kingsguard.

When the Council meeting ended, Rhaenyra, accompanied by her sworn shield, went to the Red Keep. There she found her uncle, Prince Daemon, sitting on the iron throne. He presented her with a necKlace made of Valyrian steel.

Rhaenyra and Alicent visited the godswood. They spoke of the impending royal birth and Rhaenyra expressed her hope that the child was a boy for her father’s sake.

Rhaenyra and Alicent attended the tournament to celebrate the impending royal birth. They were both curious about the knight who won through to the final against Prince Daemon. When he won, he removed his helmet revealing himself to be Ser Criston Cole of Dornish descent. He asked Rhaenyra for her favour.

While the tournament was in progress, King Viserys was called to the birthing room where he was told that the baby was in the breach position and could not be turned. He was told that the child could be saved if they cut Aemma open but she would die if they did so. Viserys chose to save the child. He sat with his wife as she bled to death. The child, Baelon, died soon after its birth.

The funeral of Queen Aemma and Prince Baelon was held. Rhaenyra gave her dragon Syrax the command ‘Dracarys’ to light the funeral pyre.

After learning that Prince Daemon had toasted Prince Baelon the ‘heir for a day’, Viserys banished him from court and sent him home to his wife.

King Viserys told Rhaenyra that he had named her as his heir. Soon after the nobles of the seven kingdoms paid homage and swore allegiance to them both.

A few months after the death of Queen Aemma, at a meeting of the Small Council, an angry Corlys Velaryon announced that the Triarchy, financed by the Free Cities, had sunk four Westerosi ships. He pleaded with the King to allow him to take the Royal fleet to defeat Craghas Drahar. Corlys approved of the idea suggested by Rhaenyra Targaryen that the dragonriders be used to quickly defeat the pirate. However, Viserys refused to sanction any action that might provoke war with the Free Cities.
Season 1 Age 15
Rhaenyra Targaryen was given the task of choosing a new Commander of the Kingsguard. She was astonished when only Ser Criston Cole had combat experience and gave him the post. This annoyed Otto Hightower who felt the post should go to the candidate from the house that would afford the best alliance.

Some months later, Alicent Hightower advised Rhaenyra to reach out to her father.

Rhaenyra and her father met. She told him that she understood he had to remarry and told him that the match with Laena Velaryon was a good one.

Rhaenyra watched her father walking in the gardens with Laena. Rhaenys told her that the country would never accept a woman on the iron throne and that when her father had a son she would be displaced.

After learning that Prince Daemon had stolen the dragon egg set aside for Prince Baelon, Rhaenyra rode Syrax to Dragonstone. She arrived just after Otto Hightower and she took the egg from Daemon, telling Otto that only she could retrieve the egg without bloodshed, thwarting his effort to destroy Prince Daemon.
Season 1 Age 15
At the next meeting of the Small Council, King Viserys announced his intention to marry Alicent Hightower. Rhaenyra Targaryen was hurt that both her father and her friend had kept their relationship secret and stormed out.
Season 1 Age 18
Despite the efforts of Alicent to resume their friendship, Rhaenyra Targaryen refused to speak to the new Queen unless formally required to do so.

Rhaenyra reluctantly attended the hunt to mark Prince Aegon’s second birthday. She was furious when she discovered that her father wanted her to marry Jason Lannister and rode off into the woods pursued by Ser Criston Cole.

Rhaenyra refused Criston Cole’s pleas to return to camp for the night. During the night she was attacked by a wild boar which she killed. Rhaenyra and Criston returned to the main camp the next morning with their kill.

Rhaenyra was told by her father to find herself a husband and marry for love. He had arranged a tour so that a variety of suitors could plead their case to her. Rhaenyra cut the tour short, bored of the endless queues of unsuitable men and boys.

On her return to court, she discovered that her uncle had returned. The two spoke and declared how much they had both changed in the years he had been away.

Rhaenyra Targaryen returned to her room where she found a bag left in her room. The bag contained clothes and a map. Rhaenyra put the clothes on then followed the map to rendezvous with Daemon.

Rhaenyra and Daemon spent time on the streets of Kings Landing. They watched a play about the succession which revealed that the smallfolk did not believe a woman could rule the Seven Kingdoms. Later they ended up in a brothel and Daemon began kissing her. However, he stopped short of having sex with her and walked away.

Rhaenyra was humiliated. She left the brothel and returned to the Red Keep. She then seduced Ser Criston Cole.

The following day, Rhaenyra learned that she and Daemon had been spotted by one of Otto Hightower’s spies. She told Alicent Hightower that her virtue was intact.

Viserys told Rhaenyra that she was to wed Laenor Velaryon. Rhaenyra agreed to the marriage on condition that Viserys get rid of Otto Hightower.

Rhaenyra travelled with her father to meet Corlys Velaryon and propose a marriage between Rhaenyra and Laenor Velaryon.

While their parents were negotiating marriage terms, Rhaenyra and Laenor walked on the beach. She admitted to him that she preferred older men and he told her he preferred men to women. They agreed to marry, produce heirs then love where they wished.

On the return journey to Kings Landing, Ser Criston Cole asked her to give up everything and run away with him. She turned him down saying that she had a duty to marry a nobleman but that they could continue their affair.

Rhaenyra attended the preliminary wedding feast. She danced with Laenor Velaryon and then spoke with her uncle in Velarion. She told Daemon that if he wanted her he should take her. A fight broke out and Ser Criston Cole killed Joffrey Lonmouth, Laenor’s love interest.

King Viserys began feeling very sick and ordered that the wedding take place immediately. As the couple said their vows he collapsed.

A son, Jacaerys was born to Rhaenerys. Although married to Laenor Velaryon, the child’s father was Harwin Strong, commander of the Kingsguard.

A son, Lucerys was born to Rhaenerys. Although married to Laenor Velaryon, the child’s father was Harwin Strong.
Season 1 Age 28
Rhaenerys gave birth to a third son, Joffrey. He was fathered by Harwin Strong. Following the birth, Rhaenerys was told that the Queen wanted to see the child. She rose from bed, dressed and walked to Alicent, visibly in discomfort.

Later, Harwin Strong, son of the Hand of the King and Rhaenyra’s personal guard, arrived to meet the new prince.

Alicent and Rhaenyra’s children were at the dragonpit where Jacaerys was learning to tame his dragon. Afterwards all the children taunted Prince Aemond, who did not have a dragon, by presenting him with a pig.

Rhaenyra’s children were being trained by Ser Criston Cole with Alicent’s children. Cole showed favour to Alicent’s children.

At a meeting of the Small Council, Rhaenyra suggested that the animosity between her and Alicent be put aside with the marriage of Prince Jacaerys to Princes Helaena.

Harwin Strong arrived to say goodbye to Rhaenyra and the children. On his father’s order he was to return to Harrenhal.

While Harwin Strong and his father were at Harrenhal, a fire broke out. They were both unable to leave their rooms and died in the blaze.

Rhaenyra, Laenor and their children left Kings Landing for Dragonstone.

Rhaenyra and her children were at Driftmark for the funeral of Laena Velaryon.

In the evening Rhaenyra and Daemon walked along the beach. Rhaenyra chided Daemon for leaving her behind. They kissed and then made love on the beach.

Rhaenyra and Daemon rushed to the hall along with other adults after a fight broke out. Daemon’s daughters Baela and Rhaena were angry that Prince Aemond had claimed Laena’s dargon Vhaegar. Rhaenyra’s sons Jacaerys (Jace) and Lucerys (Luke) supported the two girls and a fight broke out. Aemond broke Luke’s nose and Luke slashed Aemond’s face causing him to lose an eye.

King Viserys called for calm and demanded to know why the fight had taken place. He was angry when he heard that Aemond had called Jace and Luke bastards. Prince Aegon told his father that it was common knowledge that their father was not Laenor. Viserys ordered the two families to make peace. Alicent argued that this was not good enough and that Luke should lose an eye in revenge. Viserys refused. Alicent grabbed his dagger but was restrained by Rhaenyra. She then slashed Rhaenyra’s arm before storming off. Aemond told everyone that losing an eye was a fair exchange for gaining a dragon.

Laenor returned and was shocked to hear of the fight. He told Rhaenyra that his lover Qarl would leave and that they would be a proper family.

Rhaenyra and Daemon watched the ship carrying the royal party leave Driftmark. She told Daemon that they should marry arguing that they are both fire and should be together. Daemon stated that for them to marry Laenor had to die.

Daemon found Laenor’s lover, Qarl, and asked him to commit a quick murder in return for money and a boat to take him abroad. Daemon was on the stairs and killed a man coming up them.

Corlys and Rhaena were distraught when they found what appeared to be their son’s charred body.

Daemon and Rhaenyra were married.

A son, Aegon was born to Daemon and Rhaenyra. He was known as Aegon the younger to distinguish him from King Viserys and Alicent’s son Aegon the elder.

A son, Viserys was born to Daemon and Rhaenyra.
Season 1 Age 34
After learning that Corlys Velaryon had been badly injured and may not live, a pregnant Rhaenyra, Daemon and their children travelled to Kings Landing, where those with a claim to Driftmark were to petition the King.

Daemon and Rhaenyra visited King Viserys and were shocked to see how his condition had deteriorated. His head was partly covered with bandages and he was barely conscious. They showed Viserys their children Aegon and Viserys.

Rhaenys spoke to Rhaenyra and implied that Rhaenyra had arranged the murder of Laenor so she could marry Daemon. Rhaenyra stated that she had nothing to do with Laenor’s death. She then suggested that her son, Prince Lucerys (Luke) marry her granddaughter Baela and Jace marry Rhaena. Rhaenys turned down the offer.

Rhaenyra and Daemon were in the great hall to hear the petitions put forward to claim Driftmark. Otto Hightower sat the iron throne stating that King Viserys was indisposed. Vaemond spoke first stating his claim on the grounds that Lucerys (Luke) was not of Velaryon blood. As Rhaenyra began her petition on behalf of her son, Viserys arrived. This shocked those present, especially Otto and Alicent. The King was very weak and feeble and barely able to walk unaided. However, once on the throne he said that Rhaenys was the only person present who had insight into Corlys’ wishes.

Rhaenys stepped forward to speak and told the assembly that Corlys had always wished for Luke to succeed him. She said she agreed and accepted Rhaenyra’s proposal for Luke and Jace to marry Baela and Rhaena. Vaemond was furious. He questioned Luke’s parentage and called Rhaenyra a whore. Viserys ordered his tongue be removed. Daemon stepped forward and decapitated Vaemond.

Rhaenyra and Daemon attended a celebratory meal. Viserys told those present that they were the people he loved the most and asked them to be nice to each other. Rhaenyra toasted Alicent and she reciprocated. Although tension remained the others made toasts in a show of harmony. Viserys called for music, looked at the happy faces around him and had a relapse. He was carried back to bed. A fight then broke out between Luke, Jace, Aemond and Aegon.

Rhaenyra told Alicent that she thought it best if she and her family returned to Driftmark. When Alicent gave her a look of sadness, Rhaenyra said she would take the children home then return on her dragon.

Rhaenyra stood with Lucerys by the Painted Table. He told her he had no wish to be Lord of the Tides. Rhaenyra told him that people had to do what they were destined to do.

The arrival of Rhaenys was announced. She told Rhaenyra and Daemon that Viserys was dead and that Aegon had been publicly crowned King. She warned that the Greens will come for Rhaenyra and her children.

Rhaenyra suddenly went into early labour. Her sons, Jacaerys and Lucerys were brought before her and she told them that their grandfather had died and that Aegon had taken the throne. The boys went to find Daemon.

After a long and difficult labour, Rhaenyra’s baby was born dead. Both Rhaenyra and Daemon were deeply upset. Everyone gathered to cremate the baby.

Otto Hightower arrived on Dragonstone. He had come to offer terms to Rhaenyra.

Otto Hightower told Rhaenyra that if she would swear fealty to Aegon II then she could have Dragonstone. He told Rhaenyra that the Starks, Tullys and Borros Baratheon had sworn allegiance to Aegon II. Rhaenyra called Otto a traitor and angrily threw his Hand of the King badge into the sea. He then gave her a peace offering from Alicent. Daemon wanted to fight but Rhaenyra said that she would give Otto an answer the next day.

Daemon was angry that Rhaenyra would not fight. He said that they had more dragons than the Greens and could win. Rhaenyra told Daemon that she would not deal the first blow. She said that she believed in the Song of Ice and Fire. Daemon angrily grabbed her by the neck and said that dreams do not make us kings but dragons do. After Daemon released Rhaenyra she whispered ‘he never told you’ referring to Viserys’ belief that she was the Prince that was promised. Daemon then walked off.

Corlys Velaryon had returned to Dragonstone. He and Rhaenys joined Rhaenyra round the Painted Table. Corlys asked about Rhaenyra’s support but on hearing said it was not enough to win. Corlys then denounced the Hightower treason and offered Rhaenyra his fleet. He also said that he now controlled the Stepstones and the Narrow Sea. Corlys proposed cutting off the sea and laying siege to Kings Landing.

Rhaenyra agreed with Jace’s idea that he and Luke should go to the Tullys, the Starks and Borros Baratheon to gain their support. She chose to send Jace north to the Starks and the Tullys and Luke south to Storm’s End. Rhaenyra told them to remember they were sent as messengers not warriors.

Some time later, Daemon brought Rhaenyra the news that Lucerys was dead.
